Blue Ridge Rain

Blue Ridge Rain

By: Philip Kent Church

The storm rolls upon the Blue Ridge with muted profundity of thunder

Announcing it’s progress from some, far-off cardinal point, wherein it’s born.

The valleys give clarion call to the winds, swept through, whistled upon summits.

Sounding as nature’s locomotive; climbing the ridge, o’er topping the prominent apexes,

To flow as viscous shreds of overcast inexorably descending toward the forest base.

Then the mountain hollers breathe white misty apparitions from the under-worlds.

Wisping, twirling, rising toward the tangle with bedimmed shrouds of nimbus

Crowned upon the peaks and spines of the highland, paths to heaven.

There the firmament of sky oppresses, heavy, dreary and grey; hovering

Above the creatures, shivered with frigid dew, sheltering below the storm.

Soft, gentile quiet suspended in dank solace throughout the woodlands

Cause rest to nestled nature, waiting in belly-warmed furrows withal.

Waiting, waiting, waiting for the Sun’s warm break . . . or night’s cruel umbra.

Overture Of Spring

Overture Of Spring

March 18, 2016

Who fell down the score
of Spring Goddess?
all stave rain poured into
our dormant hearts and
the yearning frozen land
after a long long hibernation.

The lightning, sharp and bright,
beamed down his spotlight
on our waiting stage while
the rumble, a distant thunder,
drummed for the overture
of this cheerful season.

The wandering winds blew
their horns now and then.
So spiritedly!
Rain played her piano
up and down the steps
from dusk to dawn.
She was devoted!

As glockenspiel echoed,
children's laughter lit
the first glimmer of dawn;
Verdure and pink dotted here and there,
that's musical notes scattered
in our deserted garden.

Whose fingers brushed the harp?
ripples quivered across the still pond.
Graceful performance!
Branches swung gently
with their hands in hands.
Sweet dance!

How fresh the scent of air is!
it lingered about
like the soul of the cantor.
And come on, awakening birds,
join our grand ceremony please,
sing your favorite for yourselves and us,
Oh, what a gripping song it is--

It's joy!
It's hope!
It's fantastic!
And it's just--
a prelude of our gala concert
in this magnificent universe!

投射下聚光灯束;

第一束晨光;

平静的池塘波光潋滟;

萦绕缱绻;

I Heard Wind Howling

I Heard Wind Howling

I heard wind howling
outside my closed window
in heavy darkness,
Heaven’s rage
far or near
pierced
whole night.

I saw cold wind
through my open window
in plain daylight
sweeping back slight things:
sands, clouds, leaves
and
all lost souls.
