Western Virginia Arts began as a workshop I was teaching at Solitude at Virginia Tech. After volunteering at Pilot School & Community Center during that time period I realized there was a great potential for unused community spaces in rural Appalachia to be transformed into literary and art centers which would enhance learning with the help of the local library and community members.

WVArts is a VA/WV arts outreach in Western Virginia/West Virginia. WVArts helps local VA/WV communities revision and revitalize community infrastructure to support the arts and literacy and is produced by Studio Appalachia. WVArts motto of "Imagine, Create, Realize" is adopted from the Mississippi School of the Arts.
